Let's Crown the Greatest Title of the Console Generation: Semi-Finals
The past two days have been incredibly eventful. This past Monday, we marked the half-decade milestone of the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles with a tournament to decide the best first-party game of this console generation. You were given eight PlayStation 5 titles and eight Xbox Series X games to face off against each other, culminating in a final showdown where the leading contender from each console would go head-to-head. We've witnessed some incredibly close calls in the initial matchups, especially yesterday’s razor-thin votes. At this point, it's moment to decide the best PS5 and Xbox Series X games before Thursday’s final battle.
The PS5 Side
On the PS5 side, we have the Kratos-killer, Astro Bot. Maybe it should be no surprise given that it took home the top prize at the previous year's gaming accolades, but its win against God of War Ragnarök seems like a major shock. But to get to the finals, it'll have to go through the most valuable player of the PS5 generation: the acclaimed developer. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 enjoyed an easy journey to the final four, leaping past Ghost of Yōtei and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (another title from the same studio!) to land in the semi-finals. Can Spidey topple a beloved PlayStation icon, or is he fated to become a miniature appearance in the next Astro Bot game?
Xbox Series X Contenders
For Xbox Series X has been even juicier. Coming out on top from a diverse lineup of contenders is Forza Horizon 5. It's a significant win for the open-world driving game already, demonstrating that a niche category title earns to be on the same pedestal as classic platformers and story-driven epics. Its last roadblock en route to the championship is a major challenge, though. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has proven to be a crowd favorite, defeating acclaimed titles like Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush. Will it overcome a larger-scale title from an established IP that's closely tied to Xbox itself? Should anyone manage this feat, it's likely Indiana Jones.
Place your ballots to determine the top PlayStation and Xbox titles of this generation, and come back tomorrow to see which games will face off for the ultimate trophy in the finals!
